IMPORT AND EXPORT: ITAC to charge additional fees | Notice to all employers
IMPORT AND EXPORT
ITAC TO CHARGE ADDITIONAL FEES
NOTICE TO ALL EMPLOYERS
Dear employer
ITAC (International Trade Administration Commission) tasked with import and export related matters, has never before charged any fees for its administrative functions. However, on 16 May 2025, ITAC gazetted a proposal to charge companies a certain fee for each administrative function ITAC undertakes to issue permits, exemptions, etc., on the duties that they impose.
To view the proposed charges, please click here.
At R339 per export and import permit, this translates to around R13 million in revenue which could be earned from the most basic and least expensive category of permits. More expensive permits, such as those for rebates, drawbacks, Export Promotion Certificates, Automotive Production Rebate Certificates, and scrap metal exports permits will cost from R2 000 to just over R5 000 each.
All affected employers have until 30 May 2025 to submit comments on these proposed new charges, by sending submissions to the Senior Manager: Policy and Research, Alexander Amrein at aamrein@itac.org.za. Employers are requested to please copy NEASA (rona@neasa.co.za) in their submissions to ITAC.
